It’s no secret that I love all things beauty – this is a beauty blog, after all! However, below the lipsticks and foundations and makeup bits and bobs, I also really love skincare. Sometimes I get lazy with it, but I really do try to stick to a routine. I’d say over the last five years, I’ve really taken time to find out what works best for me and what doesn’t. Believe me when I say that I feel like I’ve tried everything! In those years, though, I’ve managed to find certain types of products that I really can’t live without. No matter the brand or where I get them, I always try to make sure I have these things on hand. These are my skincare essentials!
Makeup Remover/Cleanser and SPF
Two huge components in my skincare routine is cleansing and sun protection. In fact, I’d even say that these are the most important things that I always make sure to do no matter what. When I look for a cleanser, I always try to find something that removes my makeup. Sometimes this doesn’t always happen, but you have to make sure that you’re removing your makeup before going in with a cleanser. Sun protection is also super important, which I’m sure you have all heard before. Sun damage to your face (anywhere on your body, really!) can cause dark spots, wrinkles, and signs of aging. So get yourself some SPF!
Listen. I know I may be in my early twenties, but eye cream is essential. The skin under your eyes tends to get more dry than the rest of your face. As a result, the undereye area can experience fine lines and wrinkles (hello crow’s feet!) faster than the rest of your face. To combat this, keep your undereye area hydrated! Not only will you get the long term benefits, but I also find that my undereye concealer looks so much better after using an eye cream. It’s a win-win, really.
If you have a good staple moisturizer and feel like maybe you can skip on a serum, cool beans. For me, though, I find that serums work really well to target more specific problems that I have with my skin, such as redness or hyperpigmentation. I typically have a separate serum to use in the morning and a different one at night, depending on how my skin is doing. Personally, I really enjoy serums that have vitamin C, since it can help brighten up the skin and also have anti-aging properties. Face serums can take a bit of trial and error depending on your skin type and concerns, but they’ll be worth it!
The ultimate ‘treat yourself’ out there, probably. Face masks are incredible because there are so many different masks on the market to target different things. I’m one of those people who rotate through about three different masks throughout the week, depending on how my skin is feeling. I typically find myself gravitating towards masks that help with deep cleansing to get all the yuckies out of the skin as well as a mask that can help exfoliate. I love doing masks and usually find myself putting on a face mask about two to three times a week. Overkill? Maybe, but skin care is like working out; the more often you do it and stick to it, the more results you’ll see!
Bonus Essential: Drink Water! It’s important to stay hydrated regardless, but your skin will absolutely love you if you drink lots of water throughout the day!
What are some of your skincare staple? I’m in the market for a new SPF, so I’d love to hear your recommendations! xx
